Planning Your Upgrade to Odoo 19

When you can postpone the upgrade and when you should not

A new release is not a reason to switch right away. If your current version is still supported, your customizations and integrations work reliably and you do not need new features, you can plan the upgrade for later. It is time to upgrade a legacy Odoo version when it no longer has standard support, when you face security issues or limitations that newer versions have resolved, or when third-party modules you rely on are no longer updated. Odoo also charges an extra fee for extended support of databases on older versions, which under certain conditions amounts to 25% of the annual subscription.

What the Odoo upgrade process looks like

1. A copy of your database is migrated to a test environment, while your team keeps working in the current version.
2. Custom modules and integrations are adapted to the new version.
3. Key business scenarios such as purchasing, sales, warehousing and accounting are checked.
4. Users are shown interface changes in advance and receive short training if needed.
5. The final migration runs at night or on a weekend, within an agreed downtime window.

• VDO Webshop (the Netherlands) upgraded from Odoo 17 to Odoo 19.
