| Summary: Starting from April 2026, an additional 25% fee will be charged for legacy Odoo versions. In this article, we clarify exactly which companies will be affected by this price increase, explain how the extra Odoo fee will be applied based on a company’s current Odoo version and contract, and answer tricky questions. |
Odoo introduced a 25% surcharge for outdated versions
In 2025, Odoo announced an extra fee for legacy versions. The founder’s announcement is here together with the current version of the Enterprise contract.
In short: Outdated versions (not only the latest 3) now receive official support, but it comes with an additional 25% fee. If you’re using one of the 3 most recent Odoo versions, there is no extra support charge.
Support itself is a separate topic. We briefly touched on this in another article. Leave a comment if you would like us to cover the nuances of Odoo support in more detail.
Clarifications
All clients who renewed their contracts before July 4, 2025 will not be affected until their contracts end. This applies even if they continue using an older version of the product or service for the entire contract term.
Clients who renewed their contracts after July 4, 2025 will pay 25% more on the annualized price if they are running an unsupported version. For multi-year contracts, the annualized price is calculated as total price divided by number of years.
Odoo will start charging this extra fee in April 2026. If clients complete an upgrade before April, the fee will not apply. Otherwise, it will be charged.
Examples
Customer A uses Odoo 15, renews for 5 years in January 2026.
In April 2026, Odoo checks the version and invoices the 25% surcharge based on the annual contract price (simply dividing the 5-year price by 5).
Customer B uses Odoo 16, renews in February 2026, and then upgrades to Odoo 19 before April 2026.
The customer avoids the surcharge because they are now on a Covered Version.
Customer C uses Odoo 16, renews in February 2026, but finishes upgrading only in July 2026.
In April 2026, they are still on a non-covered version, so the 25% fee applies for that yearly cycle.
In this scenario, we suggest reaching out to your Odoo Account Manager. They can review your case and may waive the additional fee if your migration is expected to be completed within 1–2 months.
Customer D uses Odoo 14 and renewed before July 4, 2025 for a contract that remains active until 2029.
They should not be affected by the revised terms until their next renewal (verify this information against the exact agreement you signed).
Customer E uses Odoo 16 and renewed after July 4, 2025 for 5 years.
They will be charged yearly while they remain on a non-covered version, and the charge should stop once they upgrade to a Covered Version.
Additional questions
- Are there time limits on staying with legacy versions and still receiving official support?
At the moment, Odoo has not announced any explicit time limit. Based on this answer, it appears you can remain on an older version indefinitely and still receive official support — provided you pay the additional 25% legacy-version fee.
Keep in mind: this is mainly relevant for on-premises (self-hosted) deployments. The hosting lifespan of Odoo versions on Odoo.sh is 6 years, while Ubuntu operating system versions used on Odoo.sh has a lifespan of 4 years, so very old versions can’t stay on Odoo.sh long-term. For example, Odoo 14 will be removed from Odoo.sh on October 31, 2026
- Will outdated versions still receive localization updates for compliance with new or changing local requirements?
This is not clearly defined. Odoo SA is expected to decide case by case. As Odoo put it: “as it will only apply in the future, it depends on the version… (we kept flexibility in the resolution of bugfixes in the contract)” – source.
In practice, there are examples of backports (e.g., Odoo has already decided to backport Peppol to v16).
Is it worth it to upgrade?
It depends on your upgrade cost.
Clients who “get stuck” on older versions usually have heavy customizations, integrations, or bespoke workflows — and then the upgrade can be painful (sometimes closer to a re-implementation + data migration).
A simple way to think about it:
Yearly surcharge = 0.25 × your annual Enterprise subscription.
So your rough break-even point is:
Break-even years ≈ Upgrade cost ÷ (0.25 × annual subscription).
Sometimes it is smarter not to rush (e.g., if you are mid-project, or you want to bundle upgrades with a larger redesign). But in most cases, you’ll upgrade sooner or later — for security, new features, and to avoid ongoing overpayment.

Are other charges or price rises expected?
Starting in 2026, Odoo increased subscription prices in the United States and Canada by up to 30%.

Also, Odoo recently updated the 7% indexation clause. From now on, any new contract or renewal will allow Odoo to increase prices by up to 7% per annum, rather than per renewal period.
There are also rumors of price increases in other regions, but so far there’s nothing concrete beyond speculation.
